A sources sought notice is market research. The contracting office is asking which firms can do the work before it decides how to buy it — including whether to set it aside for small business, 8(a), SDVOSB, HUBZone or WOSB firms. Responding is free, it is often the only chance to shape the acquisition, and too few capable responses is how a set-aside becomes full and open. If the work fits, respond.
Much earlier than the solicitation. Multiple-award construction IDIQs (MATOCs and MACCs) recompete on a predictable schedule, and GSA lease expirations drive tenant improvement work 12 to 48 months out. The free recompete calendar and lease pages show both, so you can build a team before the notice posts.
Department of War MILCON and FSRM construction (USACE, NAVFAC and AFCEC), Department of Veterans Affairs construction, and GSA Public Buildings Service — including construction, repair and alteration, and architect-engineer (A/E) work. Civil works is not covered.
Yes. Most federal construction is ordered through multiple-award vehicles, so knowing who holds the seats — and when those vehicles recompete — tells a subcontractor which primes to call and tells a small business where a set-aside is likely. Every issue names the contracting office and the work, and the contract vehicle pages list the offices that buy.
The weekly newsletter, the recompete calendar, the contract vehicle and lease pages, and the reference library are free. Base Bid Pro and the spreadsheets in the data store are paid. There is no portal and no seat license.
