Federal construction contracts by trade
The NAICS code on a federal vehicle decides who can compete for it and which size standard applies. These are the codes federal construction and A/E work is actually bought under.
Specialty trades — electrical, mechanical, roofing, paving — rarely hold their own federal multiple-award vehicles. They usually reach federal work as subcontractors to the general contractors holding 236220 seats, which is why the teaming side of a recompete matters as much as the prime award. On a set-aside, a specialty trade contractor that primes the work may not pay more than 75 percent of the contract amount to firms that are not similarly situated; a general contractor's limit is 85 percent.
